Katyn Memorial

Katyn Memorial was constructed to commemorate the 15 thousand Polish prisoners of war missing in Soviet camps. The decision to erect a monument to the victims of Katyn was made at the XXIII General Assembly of the Canadian Polish Congress on October 1974, in St. Catharines. Out of 52 submissions, American architect Tadeusz Janowski’s design of the Katyn Monument was chosen.
There are several monuments to the Katyn Massacre through out the world. The Toronto monument is made of bronze and was erected in 1980.
