CALL FOR INTEREST | Aurora Bell Box Murals Project 2022

Artists are invited to apply to paint a mural on one of 9 Bell Canada outdoor utility boxes in the community of Aurora, as part of the 2022 Bell Box Murals Project.

Artists are invited to apply to paint a mural on one of 9 Bell Canada outdoor utility boxes in the community of Aurora, as part of the 2022 Bell Box Murals Project.

Each Bell box will have one Indigenous and one non-Indigenous artist working on the mural. Priority will be given to artists from equity-seeking and racialized communities, as part of Aurora Cultural Centre’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The project is a response to Call to Action #83 from the Truth & Reconciliation Commission Report: Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists to undertake collaborative projects and produce works that contribute to the reconciliation process.

Each accepted artist will receive an honorarium of $400 for their completed work ($800 per Bell Box). Painting will commence August 22. Accepted artists will have until September 1, 2022 to complete their mural on the bell box. Artists will be required to supply their own paint and supplies; however white metal primer will be provided free of charge.

The 2022 Aurora Bell Box Murals is a collaborative project between the Aurora Cultural Centre, the York Region chapter of Canadian Mental Health Association, and the Bell Box Murals Project.

Deadline for applications is 11:59PM Thursday June 30, 2022
