Newcomer Entrepreneurship Hub (NEH):
COHORT 11 OPERATES FROM OCTOBER 26 to NOVEMBER 23, 2024
The Newcomer Entrepreneurship Hub (NEH) is now accepting applications for the FALL COHORT
NEH is a program for Greater Toronto Area-based newcomers to Canada who are interested in gaining knowledge, experience, and support to open a business in Canada. The program supports aspiring newcomer entrepreneurs in all stages of the business cycle, offering training by industry professionals, networking and testing opportunities as well as business mentorship.
NEH is operated in a partnership between Scadding Court Community Centre (SCCC) and the Diversity Institute of Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU), and is funded by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
This FREE 5-week program includes:
- Pre-incubation entrepreneurship training
- Mentorship by local entrepreneurs and other business professionals
- Guided workshops to help participants map out their ideas through the completion of a Business Model Canvas (BMC)
- Opportunities for networking and connecting to a larger, online NEH group for knowledge sharing, events, and resources
- Access to market-testing opportunities
- Wraparound services such as settlement supports, translation and literacy upgrading, and referrals to other culturally-relevant services
IMPORTANT:
To be eligible you:
- Must have Permanent Resident status; Convention Refugee status; or Protected Persons status
- Refugee Claimants (with the exception of those who have initial approval from IRCC that have become permanent residents and have a letter from IRCC as proof) will be waitlisted for future cohorts, dependent on change to their status
- NOTE: Ukrainian temporary residents and their dependents are also eligible for IRCC-funded settlement services like NEH
- If you are interested in the program but do not meet the above requirements, please email Grace Cameron at gcameron@scaddingcourt.org to hear about the other entrepreneurial programs we offer and/or to join the waitlist for future cohorts.
Applicants who meet these initial eligibility requirements will be contacted by a member of our team to schedule an intake interview to be done virtually via Zoom. During the interview you will be asked to show proof of your immigration status.
The cohort will run for 5 weeks: From Saturday October 26 to November 23
The workshops will take place twice a week:
- Tuesday afternoons from noon to 2:30 pm over Zoom
- Saturdays, in person, at the downtown campus of TMU
