Shoot For the Moon: Spark is a monthly literary prize dedicated to helping amplify the voices of QT2S/BIPOC writers in Canada.


  • There are no themes.
  • There is no minimum or maximum word count.
  • There is no submission fee.
  • Please only submit unpublished work alongside an updated biography. 
  • Submission deadline is the 1st of each month, with the prizes announced/awarded no later than the 15th of each month.You will be notified of the award before the announcement is made.
  • No auxiliary materials are required.
  • Submit your work by email to as an Microsoft Word or PDF attachment.
  • When submitting, tell Spark a bit about yourself in your email, and where readers can read more of your work.
  • This is open to writers at any stage of their craft. If you are in the beginning stages of your career or have never been published, do not feel like you are ineligible – you must start somewhere, and this is a good place to start!


  • $1000.00 for top prize
  • $300.00 for second prize 
  • $150.00 for third prize

If You Win 

  • All winning pieces will be published online at (unless you wish to publish the work on your own platform, in which case Spark would be happy to amplify your site where the winning work will be posted).
  • Each award winner will have the option of having their work published in a mini-chapbook, to be released six weeks after the prizes are awarde.
  • All proceeds of the chapbook will go to the authors involved.
  • If you win one of the 2nd or 3rd place awards, you are welcome to continue to submit work. 
  • You are eligible for a maximum of two prizes every twelve months.

If during the process you discover that your work is to be published elsewhere, and you wish to submit another piece for that month, simply write to SPARK immediately to inform them. You can always submit another piece in the following month).
