REEL CANADA is hiring a national roster of film industry professionals for part-time contracts, to participate in the Reel Opportunities programme between January- May 2021!

REEL CANADA is a charitable not-for-profit whose mission is to introduce youth to Canadian film and engage them in a conversation about identity and culture. The Reel Opportunities programme offers online workshops designed to expose young people to the hundreds of career opportunities in the Canadian film industry. The workshops will feature film industry guest speakers talking about their own experiences. The workshops will also be led by facilitators who will provide an overview of the career paths and moderate the live conversations with students.

They are looking for candidates from all areas of production and post-production whose work opportunities have been reduced this year due to COVID-19. All successful applicants must have access to reliable high speed internet and be able to participate in live video-conferencing via Zoom, Google Meet or similar online platforms. REEL encourages applicants from all regions of Canada to apply, especially if they have connections to their local or provincial film industries.

WORKSHOP GUESTS

REEL is looking for candidates with on-set or post-production work experience who can speak passionately and comfortably to youth about their own work experiences. Whether you are a grip or gaffer, a cinematographer, makeup artist, props master or costumer, an editor, a sound designer, or anything and everything in between, they'd love to hear from you.

Contracts are $2000 - $5000 depending on the number of Reel Opportunities engagements, which could include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Being a live workshop guest via Zoom or similar video conferencing platform  Participating in a short video about your career experiences, which will be featured in our workshop materials
  • Engaging in consultations with the REEL CANADA team
  • Online mentoring activities with youth
  • You will also need to be available for occasional tech checks and prep conversations with the REEL CANADA team.

Requirements: 

  • At least two years of film crew or post-production work experience
  • Comfortable speaking to youth about your own work experiences
  • Comfortable presenting in an online environment
  • Fluent French is an asset, but not a requirement (some workshops will be presented in French)
  • Reliable high speed internet and ability to participate in live video-conferencing WORKSHOP FACILITATORS Facilitators are responsible for guiding the conversation between our workshop guests and youth audiences.
  • Ideal candidates are familiar with many aspects of the film industry and can speak knowledgeably about on-set life.

Contracts are $3000 - $6000 depending on the number of Reel Opportunities engagements, and will require you to facilitate a number of live workshops and/or participate in recording video sessions about the film industry, to be featured in our workshop materials. You will also need to be available for occasional tech checks and prep conversations with the REEL CANADA team.

Requirements:

  • At least two years experience working in the film industry (on-set experience an asset)
  • Ability to speak knowledgeably about on-set life and the many different roles involved in making a film (in general)
  • Comfortable speaking to youth
  • Comfortable leading and moderating a Q&A or interview
  • Comfortable presenting in an online environment
  • Performance / acting or public speaking experience is an asset
  • Fluent French is an asset, but not a requirement (some workshops will be presented in French)
  • Reliable high speed internet and ability to participate in live video-conferencing

  • What your experience has been (briefly or generally; some highlights if you want)
  • Why you would encourage a young person to go into the film industry
  • If you are applying for a facilitator position, please also include a few sample questions that you would ask a film industry guest that you might be interviewing.
  • If you have a resume, cover letter, portfolio, IMDb page, website, etc., that will tell us more about you and your experience, please feel free to include that in your application as well.
