Artist Spotlight | Honey Novick | 2014 Culture Days @ The Library
Culture Days | My Culture Days Activity is Have Fun with Poetry in the Library . The Library will invite school children to join me in the love of the spoken word, sound, reading, writing and the creativity of the curious imagination. I am at Scarborough's Victoria Library this year
Art | I love what I do. I'm considered a SONG/POET, someone who is a vocalist, a chanteuse and a poet. What I try to offer is the sharing of this love of singing and writing and creative expression. It is a form of community building
Impact | I am the recipient of the 2014 Empowered Poet Award from the Vancouver based International Festival of poetry for Peace as well as the Bobbi Nagwegahbow Memorial Award for sharing my love of singing and writing with various groups from the Friendly Spike Theatre Band ( a collective of people who live with disabilities and others) to Sheena's Place (a support for people with Eating Disorders) to the Secret Handshake Mutual Reading Series, a support for people living with schizophrenia to gifted singers and writers. The one positive impact are these.
Advice | Success is found in many places like trophies or CDs or books or just getting out of bed in the morning. It isn't easy living a dream. It is in hope that the true war is waged. It is in kindness that a community reveals itself. Strength is recognizing weakness. Sometimes it takes a struggle, a fight to understand what true victory means.
Culture Days @ the Library: Have Fun With Poetry
Friday September 26, 2014
1:00-2:00pm | Victoria Villiage Library, 184 Sloane Avenue
Love to write? Want to share your poem, lyric, song? "Have Fun With Poetry" offers ideas, exercises and a platform to express. Poetry helps build confidence, develops ideas and communication. We start with a story, our story. We talk to one another about ourselves. We empower the moment with who we are. We can be guided to explore more vocabulary, stories, books, people. We can speak to a group of people or just write something significant for us. We love to laugh and demystify poetry. We pay homage to Dr. Suess and Shel Silverstein as well as great Canadian and International writers and thinkers. Is Bob Dylan a poet, a prophet? Does our opinion matter? Yes, it does. Let meet and greet this wonderful art form.
