A versatile performer with over 8 years' experience in musical, opera, operetta, theatrical and choral productions in Canada, the U.S. and Vietnam, Tan Vu discovered his passion for musical theatre during his Fulbright program in the U.S. Tan made his professional debut in 2016 in Saigon Conservatory of Music’s "A Broadway Journey," and in Saigon Opera House’s "Carmen." His featured role as Frank the singing bellhop in Dragonfly Theatre Company’s "Lend Me a Tenor" earned him favorable actor review in the press, and set the momentum for subsequent professional engagements and talent scholarship to train in musical theatre performance at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York City.
Relocating to Toronto in 2019, Tan has been grateful to perform in diverse engagements, spanning sacred music, choral work, operetta production with Toronto Operetta Theatre, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Summer Opera Lyric Theatre (COVID-cancelled), and several churches. He is passionate about using his voice, energy, physical agility and movement to engage audience members in a multi-faceted storytelling experience that moves hearts, and looks forward to becoming an active contributor to the Toronto's musical theatre scene.
Thoughts About Art and Community
Musical theatre is a cross-disciplinary arts form that blends music, theatre, and dance to holistically convey a compelling story that moves hearts.
As a musical theatre artist, I use my voice, energy, physical agility and movement to engage audience members of diverse backgrounds in a multi-faceted story-telling experience that advances cross-cultural understanding & respect and promote integration to Toronto's arts and cultural landscape.
A versatile performer with over 8 years of experience in musical, opera, operetta, theatrical and choral productions in Canada, the U.S. and Vietnam, I seek to contribute my capabilities to concerts, productions, religious services, variety shows, and events that require performances of diverse natures.
I am also a Fulbright Scholar with extensive arts fundraising experience, which may be of value to non-profit arts organizations, and an advanced practitioner of Hatha and Power Yoga.
