Cathy Hunt is Canadian painter and member of Walnut Studios Collective in downtown Toronto.
Cathy came to painting after working in the Canadian Film Industry for 15 years. She holds an Honours BA in Motion Picture Studies from Ryerson University and was honored with a Gemini Award in 1987 for Sound. She left the industry in 1994 to pursue visual art and studied for four years at the Toronto School of Art. Cathy is also a vocalist with The Element Improvisational Choir and studies with Master vocal teacher, Tom Schilling.
Cathy has volunteered extensively in the Toronto public school system to provide after-school art and music experiences for elementary students. As an Ontario Arts Council Artist in Education she created and taught Drum & Draw and Painting with Music. Both programs explore the relationship between music and visual art.
Cathy Hunt has exhibited across Canada and her work is held in both private and corporate collections in Rome, Santa Fe, Toronto, Montreal & St. John’s NL. She continues to extend her audience internationally.
Thoughts About Art and Community
In both my visual and vocal work I aim to share story and to both engage and push the envelope of experience of audiences.
I am a painter who exhibits in the Toronto area. I am a member of The Element Improv Choir who performs extensively throughout the downtown core notably in 2015 with Tanya Tagaq (2015 Polaris Prize Winner) & Luminato, Apocalypsis at The Sony Centre.
