ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Angela Moritsugu (she/her) is the Director of Talent Development Programs at the Canadian Academy. She has worked on numerous independent Canadian productions in roles across departments, founded her own screening series, and lent her skills to organizations such as TIFF, Hot Docs, the Canadian Film Centre, and the Royal Ontario Museum. She regularly guest instructs a University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies module, and ran an arts-based professional development company for over three years.

An enthusiastic member and supporter of the Canadian screen industry, Angela is passionate about nurturing emerging talent and encouraging life-long learning. As a multiracial woman, she has found that the film industry can present many closed doors to those who are not already well-connected or don't fit a certain profile. She feels lucky to have built a network of both film and professional development industry contacts, despite these obstacles, and aims to use the resources at her disposal to support filmmakers with diverse backgrounds in launching and furthering their careers.

Nancy Hu (she/her) is the Manager of Talent Development Programs at the Canadian Academy. She supports the creation and delivery of talent initiatives geared toward spotlighting underrepresented voices. Raised on Canadian content, Nancy is passionate about finding new, compelling perspectives and fostering our homegrown screen industry. Before joining the Academy, she worked on TIFF’s Industry initiatives and the Television, Film, Acting, and Music programs at the Canadian Film Centre.

Rodas Dechassa (she/her) is a Programming and Membership Coordinator at the Canadian Academy, where she exercises her passion and commitment to supporting both emerging musical and screen-based talent in Canada, through programs like the MVP Project and Prism Prize. She is also a screenwriter based in Toronto, having most recently written for the CBC Gem Original series virgins!
