Creative Potluck

Creative Potluck is a FREE neighbourhood event where artists and community residents gather around food to share ideas, best practices, and network.

This series was created from discussions with member organizations and other community partners, with the intent to provide space to share new artist works, discuss creative practices, and generate new ways in which we can build Toronto into a more creative city.

Creative Potluck | Curated Tour of Nuit Blanche- Scaborough

Date: October 5, 2019 @ 6-9 p.m.

Meeting place: Scarborough Town Centre- food court

This Creative Potluck slightly differs from the usual format.; instead of welcome 6 speakers to learn from and with while sharing food, we will experience Nuit Blanche together in Scarborough! Special guests and authors Catherine Hernandez and Carrianne Leung will speak about the significance of bringing Nuit Blanche to Scarborough and different ways of engaging with public art. After gathering in the food court, Catherine and Carrianne will lead us on a curated tour through 5 installations near the Civic Centre and Town Centre. They will read excerpts from their Scarborough-based novels at the beginning of each installation before asking thought-provoking questions about how we engage with art.

The 2019 theme is Queens and Kings of Scarborough, curated by Ashley McKenzie-Barnes.

About Kings and Queens: A theatrical playground that challenges the constructs of systematic social marginalization, negotiation of self-identity and racial stereotypes within a modern framework.  From film and sculpture to consumer advertising and media, Queens and Kings of Scarborough dismantles conventional and societal perceptions, flipping the script, and honouring Scarborough as a hotbed of culture.
