The Tale of a Town
About:
The Tale of a Town by FIXT POINT
THE TALE OF A TOWN is a neighbourhood arts project about Queen West that will take place in a re-claimed storefront on the block. Through interviewing and documenting local entrepreneurs and residents, we will uncover stories and history about the area, and then build a live performance based on our findings. Layering video interviews and digital soundscape with live music, a personalized set design and outlandish characters, THE TALE OF A TOWN will tell a story inspired by the neighbourhood’s past and while questioning it’s future. The show will be constructed using materials sourced only from local vendors, collaborating with area musicians and artists to create a true sense of community participation.
FIXT POINT operates a storefront studio space in Parkdale, Toronto where THE TALE OF A TOWN was developed in the fall of 2008 and produced in the fall of 2009 with support from the Toronto Arts Council.
THE TALE OF A TOWN will be presented May 1 to 16, 2010 in association with Theatre Passe Muraille, Jumblies Theatre, The Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas, The Queen West BIA and the Canada Council for the Arts.
