Digitalized Communal Portraits

by Arts for Children and Youth

About:

In this project portable digital photo booths are used as creative resources to capture portraits of Toronto’s priority communities. AFCY has worked on this project with shelter youth at Covenant House and local youth residents at Gabian Way. The youth place a photo booth on a Toronto location of their choice – a street corner, a park, a lobby of their shelter.

The impetus here is to digitally capture the communal essence of a specific Toronto locality. A central aim is to encourage passersby to experience dialogic, creative and potentially multigenerational interactions that digitalize their participation, their part within the urban context, and marks them as a part of a larger communal arts-based initiative.
