Sponsor a Bus - Help Out Jumblies!

April 22, 2010

Jumblies is heading towards our major event of the year: Like An Old Tale – a 2-week, work-in-progress, evolving installation, storytelling and performance event at Cedar Ridge Gallery, involving several hundred community participants from Scarborough, Etobicoke, Davenport Perth and Nipissing First Nations (near North Bay).

A federal grant, which we’ve been awaiting with reasonable assurances since last summer, hasn’t materialized. And so we’re struggling and scheming to make this, nonetheless, a welcoming and wonderful event. In particular, we don’t want to stint on making it accessible to everyone, including our many low-income participants, including children, youth and families living in shelters and motels, public housing tenants and diverse newcomers.

Here are two ways you can help:

1. Sponsor a bus:

Our biggest access expense is transportation in a car-centered neighbourhood. We will rent buses for 20+ trips, to bring groups from Scarborough and across the city – at a total cost of $5,000 or more.

And so, if you would like to make a donation to Jumblies, this would be a great time to do so:

• $250 pays for one round trip, with several pick-up points.
• A smaller donation pays for part of a bus, and it all adds up.

For donations of $40 or over, we will offer you an advance place at one of the event’s storytelling sessions, which will have very limited audience capacity. To ensure a place, let us know by April 21 that you are making a donation.

For a donation of $250, we will dedicate one specific bus trip in your name, or the name of your group/organization, with verbal thanks, and a sign on the bus. All donors will be thanked on signage at the event, and will be able to enjoy riding to and from a subway on one of our rented buses.

Charitable receipts will be issued for all donations over $10.00.

To donate on line, go to our Home Page at http://www.jumbliestheatre.org/jumblies.html and click Donate Now, or mail your cheque to Jumblies Theatre, c/o Cedar Ridge Creative Centre, 225 Confederation Drive, Scarborough ON M1G 1B2.

2. Come and help out:

We need volunteers each day of the event (May 3 to 13, daytime, evening and weekend shifts), to help with food and hospitality. If you would like to help, please contact Mary at mary@jumbliestheatre.org or 416-203-8428.

Any contribution you can make would be a huge and immediate help!
