NOTE: THIS OPPORTUNITY IS TARGETED FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH LESS THAN HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION.
This position will allow a youth with a passion for visual art (particularly painting, graphic design and fashion) to take a leadership role at Under the Radar, a youth-led social enterprise specializing in t-shirt printing and art/design projects (undertheradarto.com). We are looking for an energetic, open-minded personality, particularly with experience in graffiti art, screen printing, graphic or web design.
This is a position funded by Service Canada and is open to all Youth ages 16-30 who are not in school, not currently employed and not in receipt of E.I. benefits. This is a full-time, contract position. Working hours are 10:00am-6:00pm, Monday to Thursday. Each Friday is a full day in workshops.
Qualifications:
-Portfolio or images showcasing expertise in visual media (aerosol, graphic design, acrylics, screen printing)
-Basic experience in Adobe platforms
-Employment history at a business is an asset
-Desire to collaborate with artists and open minded to criticism
-Solid work ethic and enthusiastic about challenges
-Understanding of issues affecting GTA youth, and eagerness to engage youth
-Willingness to persevere in job search
Responsibilities:
-Customizing design of logos, flyers and other graphic projects for clients of Under the Radar
-Liaise between UTR staff and clients to ensure customer satisfaction
-Engage volunteer and student artists in the process of design and screen printing activities
-Hands-on tasks in and around UTR studio and project sites – building/cleaning/preparing screens, printing garments, priming/painting walls, maintenance and data management
-Attend employment skills development workshops, and liaise with Job Developer
Compensation: $10.25/hr x 37.5hrs
