Job Description

Kaleidoscope Intercultural Arts is a five-year collaborative after-school arts and culture program presented by Scarborough Arts, Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Harmony Movement, Catholic Crosscultural Services and Cultural Pluralism in the Performing Arts (University of Toronto Scarborough Campus) and a range of organizations. Kaleidoscope will involve artist-mentored programming in various disciplines in five elementary schools across Scarborough. The program will use art as a medium for intercultural dialogue and creative expression to explore diverse cultural identities through a variety of themes including: traditions and celebrations, cultural heritage and identity, diversity in my school/community, immigration and settlement and my neighbourhood.

Job Function
The Kaleidoscope Program Coordinator will be responsible for the initial start-up and ongoing operation of the program including program planning and development, on-site coordination and supervision of school programs, administration and outreach, evaluation, volunteer and program staff coordination and a variety of other tasks.

The Kaleidoscope Program Coordinator will support artist instructors, volunteers and educators and will report directly to the Scarborough Arts Executive Director and Kaleidoscope Steering Committee. The position is full time at 35 hours a week and will involve some late afternoons and evenings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of program planning and implementation of the Kaleidoscope program
- Coordinate on-site school programming, including transportation of program equipment, materials and refreshments
- General administration of program, including registration and monitoring program budget
- Organize and support the Steering and Community Advisory Committees in order to ensure broad-based participation and effectiveness
- Act as a liason to a broad range of stakeholders including, but not limited to, partners, funders, parents, educators, volunteers, students, artist mentees and community leaders
- Facilitate collaborative process of selection of program discipline (eg. performing arts, visual arts, new media) with each school
- Develop curriculum for school programming in collaboration with artist instructor and stakeholders, ensuring program themes are incorporated
- Coordinate participation of volunteers, artist assistants, educators and other program support participants
- Coordinate outreach for program in school communities and across Scarborough to connect with volunteers and community-at-large
- Conduct evaluation of program, including surveys and interviews with participants
- Organize annual Community Exchange Exhibition featuring all student participants
- Ensure that after-school program reflects Kaleidoscope themes and provides opportunities for children to develop deeper understanding and respect for diverse experiences and cultural backgrounds
- Identify and secure program materials, equipment and resources, including art supplies, materials and technical equipment
- Assist in the training and orientation of after-school program volunteers and mentees
- Assist with the development of website and social media platforms to allow participants, stakeholders and partners to stay engaged
- Organize photo and video documentation of program activities
- Write annual and final reports for submission to program funder and collaborative partners
- Develop and implement plan for long-term sustainability of the program, including grant identification and fundraising
- Other tasks as required
The ideal candidate would possess:
- Post-secondary education and background in the arts, community development/social services or related field
- E.C.E., Recreation & Leisure, CYW, SSW or related diploma/certificate
- Experience in community arts programming and working knowledge of arts practices and practitioners
- Experience working with children and youth
- Passionate about youth-focused social justice and social change
- Knowledge of and experience working from an anti-racism and anti-oppressive framework
- Ability to handle emergencies, crises and difficult situations
- Strong project development and management skills
- Ability to monitor budgets and handle routine financial transactions
- Ability to recruit and coordinate volunteers
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexible schedule and willing to work late afternoons and evenings during program
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Knowledge of grant/proposal writing and fundraising an asset
- Social media and web design skills an asset

Hours: 35 hours a week, Monday – Friday; some late afternoons and evenings will be required

Contract Length: 5 Years
