University Settlement Music and Arts School

About:

University Settlement Music and Arts School was founded in 1921 and our mandate is to provide quality, affordable music and dance programs to children, teens, adults and seniors from the Grange neighbourhood as well as the greater Toronto area. We function in the belief that arts education should be a right, not a privilege, and that lessons should be availalable to everyone, regardless of age, ethnicity, perceived talent, disability or ability to pay. The School provides an open house of learning in a welcoming, familial atmosphere.
We currently offer individual instruction in a wide variety of instruments and group classes for children in dance, recorder ensemble, drumming circle, ear training, theory and children's choir. Our adult programs include a community choir, ear training classes and a chamber music program.
Our fees are modest and below market. A subsidy program is available for children of low- income families who qualify.
We also have a number of scholarships available to students who excel in their studies.

Thoughts about art and community:

It is important that communities in Toronto not only have access to affordable programs, but that affordable concert oppportunties are available for those who cannot afford the cost of a regular concert ticket. Our organization provides many free and pay what you can music events throughout the year.
