Making Room began in the Spring of 2008 as an exploration into the relationship between intentional silence, writing and art-making through the creation of handmade books, installations, sculptures, murals and celebrations. Making Room works primarily with older adults dealing with many of the same challenges facing a large number of other Parkdale residents including poverty, lack of proper housing, and involvement with the psychiatric system. Bringing silence and artistic creation together in a chaotic drop-in centre, we create a space for the coming together of individuals, groups and communities who often have little to do with one another.
